WE CAUGHT UP WITH PRESTON’S FINEST ADAM MAC, TO CHAT ABOUT HIS NEW RELEASE
HIS LABEL AND HIS DREAM COLLABORATIONS
Can u tell a bit about your new EP?
Adam Mac
Yeah, its out today, 15 tracks and 1 bonus beat, the style is grime/trap/dub/mellow.
I’ve released it on my independent label “purple jelly records”
Is this your first release ?
Adam Mac
lol, it’s my second release after the ‘Lost in Preston’ EP.
OK cool, what was the inspiration behind the EP ?
Adam Mac
Different emotions I suppose, and moods that certain chords and samples evoke. I wanted it to be a bit of a rollercoaster, for people to be able to play it from start to finish and not get fed up.
The title is very reminiscent of Big Narstie’s SBTV freestyle, was that on purpose?
Adam Mac
Big Narstie deffo inspired the title, as did Wiley saying something similar.
Its like a “Hello grime scene, here is what I do, have a listen, see what you think” sorta thing.
So whats your favourite era of grime?
My favourite grime era was 2003-05, when I was DJing in crews, such Raw Rnergy and Talent all in a big melting pot of a scene.
Who is your biggest influence?
Adam Mac
LJ and G1 have been the biggest influence on my production from a technical point of view, but early listening experiences like Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark side of the moon’, The Beatles, The Fugees, Massive Attack and JDilla are also recurring themes.
LJ, G1, Domino, Trends, Dubzta, Faze Miyake, Preditah, Sir Pixalot, Mr Mitch, Moony and Joss Ryan but he kinda aint grime
Adam Mac
s-x too, hes dope! Oh, and joker lol!
Adam Mac
My dream collaboration would be Joker or Martina Topley bird
